Intelligence sources claim that US terror suspect Pakistani origin American citizen David Coleman Headley aka Daood Gilani (a cousin of an aide of Pakistan PM Yusuf Raja Gilani) has mentioned that Ishrat Jahan Shamim Raza (19) was a human bomb and an operative of Lashkar-e Tayyiba (LeT). She was a member of the outfit’s suicide bomb squad inducted by a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba operations commander Yusuf Muzammil, operative in India – in charge till 2007. Government of India has remained tight lipped since then.

Headley is currently in the US custody on the espionage charges of being a single or double spy agent.

Yet another major Indian electronic medium - NDTV has reported today, “Bearing out the version of Gujarat Police, American-born Lashker-e-Toiba terrorist David Headley has claimed before NIA sleuths that Ishrat Jahan, a Mumbai girl killed in a police encounter in Ahmedabad, was a suicide bomber of the outfit.

Official sources said that Headley shared this information with the four-member team comprising officials from National Investigation Agency and Law Department during their visit to Chicago in the US.”

In an unprecedented move by the Indian media, “Senior journalist Punya Prasoon Bajpai has (sic) expressed regret over the manner in which Ishrat Jahan was termed a terrorist in the media. He has apologised for the sensational reporting of the infamous extra-judicial killing in Ahmedabad.” In an article published under the head, “Journalist's apology for faulty reporting: Ishrat Jahan encounter case”. It can be accessed at URL:

Though it's a personal apology, it should be seen in wider context. Bajpai is a widely respected journalist and the fact that he wrote a column titled, 'Ishrat hamein maaf kar do' (Isharat, please forgive us), in India's largest circulated Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, is no ordinary thing.

All this vaudeville went on rampantly despite the fact that it was even reported in the Pakistan press that Isharat was in fact an operative of LeT. “In a media report published by Ghazwa Times of Lahore, LeT supported the Ahmedabad police version by saying that Ishrat Jahan was indeed an activist of the organization; as per the Wikipedia version.”:

Jahan was shot dead in an encounter on the outskirts of Ahmadabad on 15 June 2004 by Gujarat Police’s encounter specialist DG Vanzara on charges of being a LeT terrorist out to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi sparking an unprecedented vehement hype raised in the loco-national-international media and the political circles.

She was in a car accompanied by Javed Ghulam Sheikh aka Pranesh Kumar Pillai and two other Pakistani nationals viz. Amjad Ali aka Raj Kumar Akbar Ali Rana and Jishan Johar Abdul Ghani.

But Wikipedia (Ibid) records their names as,” According to the police, her companions were: Javed Ghulam Sheikh (born Pranesh Kumar Pillai) (Pune), Jishan Johar alias Abdul Ghani of Gujranwala, Pakistan and Amjad Ali Akbarali Rana alias Salim of Haveli Diwan, Pakistan.”

They allegedly opened fire on the police squad on being accosted, leading to the fateful encounter and death of all four. They were all in their blue Tata Indica car.

This had understandably led to a pithy and highly controversial environment in the whole nation. Notwithstanding the fact that an involvement of a Muslim in Gujarat has strong socio-political implications in the contemporary Indian milieu as it stands.

This is irrespective of the starkly contrasting Islamic macabre dance orchestrated by the same LeT sponsored operatives in the present burning situation in the Kashmir Valley. It is openly backed by the Pakistani Military/ISI juntas. Yet the Indian media fail to report them in its right perspective in the national interest. The reports are mostly concentrated centering the separatists and the pro-Pakistani factions.

Initially the Union Home Ministry had endorsed the Gujarat State Police stance that Isharat was a terrorist but subsequently when a report prepared by an Ahmadabad Metropolitan Magistrate SP Tamang in 2009 held that Isharat was not a terrorist and was killed in a fake encounter; the central ministry backtracked.

Subsequently, though the decision was stayed by the High Court. This had caused a serious embarrassment to Narendra Modi Government. A YouTube video clip illustrates it well, on the URL; Ishrat Jahan case: Guj courts call it as fake encounters:

Jahan’s mother Shamima Kauser, not satisfied with the Gujarat High Court, went to “The Supreme Court Monday stopped the Gujarat High Court from hearing a state government plea to annul a magisterial probe that indicted the Ahmedabad police for the staged killings of Mumbai college girl Ishrat Jahan and her three friends in June 2004. An apex court bench of Justice B. Sudershan Reddy and Justice Deepak Verma stopped the high court from conducting any judicial proceeding on the staged killings till Dec 7, when the apex court is slated to hear the matter itself.” As reported in Mynews.com in following URL:

In a rediff news, it was reported on 9 September 2009, “The then head of DCB D G Vanzara, who is a prime accused in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case and is currently lodged in jail, had claimed that all the four had links to the LeT and they were on a mission to kill Modi.” It further added,” After the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, this is the second case where an encounter involving the Gujarat police, during the tenure of CM Narendra Modi, is being probed again.”

She was said to be a student in Mumbai and her mother had filed a case in Gujrat High Court where she had alleged that Isharat was working as a salesgirl for one Mr Javed Sheikh aka Pranesh Pillai at the same time. Javed Sheikh was said to be a businessman selling “Itra” and allegedly her husband. It may be known that “Itra” is a special kind of scent prepared in an oil base. It has a highly pleasing aromatic smell and is fairly popular amongst Muslims.

It may be recalled that this had created big uproar and colossal media hype. Jahan being a Muslim and getting killed in Gujrat where the so called (in)famous BJP leader Narendra Modi was/is ruling against the odd national concept of the sectarian communal politics; had become a big issue politically for international uproar. He is an international soar eye.

The opposition political parties are asking, “The UPA Government is dithering on the terrorist case as usual. It is high time they came clean,” the BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad observed.

The case in Gujarat High Court is pending. “A division bench of Gujarat high court consisting of justices Jayant Patel and ZK Saiyad will conduct from July 14 the final hearing of the petitions seeking that the investigation in Ishrat Jahan encounter case be handed over to the CBI.

On Thursday (24th June 2010), the bench asked all parties linked with the case to file their submissions before July 5 and rejoinders before July 9. The two-judge bench was constituted on the direction of the Supreme Court, where Ishrat's mother Shamima Kaushar and Javed alias Pranesh's father Gopinathan Pillai had moved petitions.” This is reported in DNA on Friday, 25 June 2010:

It is an intriguing coincidence to disclose this Headley concoction on the heel of this case pending in the High Court to start hearing on 14th July 2010 to decide to hand it over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

All eyes are hinged on the High Court, while the opposition and Gujarat asks for justice to them and the Nation.
